August 15th, 2018 is National Relaxation Day! Who deserves to celebrate the national day of relaxation more than you?
Anyone can celebrate, regardless of budget. In fact, money should be one of the farthest things from your mind on this day.
So sit back (start practicing for the big day) and read on to see how you can celebrate this special day with little or no money.
First, there are a few things you need to decide. Do you want to spend this day alone or would you prefer to spend it with your significant other, your best friend, your kids, your sister, or your mom? It is all about what sounds the most relaxing to you.
Take a Day Off
If you can get the day off work, whether that be in an office or at home with the kids, go for it. A whole day to relax sounds pretty amazing. When is the last time you had that?
Do you like to read? Head over to your library and pick up a handful of summer reads or download some to your Kindle (they always have free books).
Pick up some of your favorite snacks. Clear your schedule, clear the back deck, and you may even decide to pop open a bottle of wine.
After that, the day is yours to lose yourself in a good book. If you happen to feel like taking a nap, that is your prerogative. An afternoon nap can be very restorative.
Do you need to be pampered? Are your toes in desperate need of some TLC or the knots in your back muscles looking like pretzels? If so, plan a spa day.
A spa does not need to be expensive. There is always a salon offering a 2-for-1 special or another deal. Sign up for Groupon and see if you can find a once-in-a-lifetime deal for a spa day near you.
Another place to look is the local beauty school. They offer salon services at a mere fraction of traditional salon prices, but they are still extremely talented and have a supervisor to ensure you are getting more than what you paid for but every bit of what you deserve.
Catch a Movie
Love the movies? Pick up a bunch of DVDs at your local library and plop down for a day-long session of movie magic. Pop some popcorn, grab a comfy blanket, and get lost in a good flick.
Have the urge to go to the movie theater? Hit a matinee. They are always cheaper than evening movies.
Some movie theaters have special days where the tickets are even cheaper. Again, Groupon is a great resource for finding low-cost movie tickets, and not only for the theater but for special attractions like the Omnimax.
Walk of Art
Is art your thing? Head into the city and spend a day getting lost among the great artwork. Imagine spending the day slowly meandering from room to room, getting to spend as much time as you decide on each piece, How great does that sound? You can even take a sketch pad and try your hand at creating.
Most art museums are free or have free areas every day or once a week.
Do you love amusement parks? Sure, you may get to go with your kids, and as much fun as that is, it is not quite the same as getting to be the kid, is it?
If you already have a pass, grab your spouse or a friend and spend the day at the amusement park riding your favorite rides, indulging in your very own funnel cake, and stopping to take in a show when the sun starts to beat down.
Play a game or two and just remember what it is like to be a kid. Bring snacks and pack a lunch to save on expenses.
If you do not have a pass, then check out your amusement park’s website for any special offers, or google where you can get cheaper tickets. Visiting in the evening or other off-peak times is another way to receive reduced admission.
No dragging strollers or being stuck in Kiddie Land, just the chance to let go and enjoy the childlike wonder of an amusement park where the day is, once again, all about you.
